In The First Week of November, 19,585 Litre Illicit Liquor Seized In UP, 29 Arrested

Lucknow, November 10 || With the onset of winters, hooch dealers seems to be working overtime. However it seems that the excise department of the Uttar Pradesh government is outsmarting them! And so it is no wonder that in the first week of November alone, 823 cases have beem registered and a whopping 19,585.00 litre of illicit liquor recovered.

99,080.00 kg lahan, an official informed, has been destroyed and 297 people arrested. Other than this, a dozen vehicles involved in the illicit liquor trade have also been seized.

Sanjay R Bhoosreddy, Additional Chief Secretary Excise Department, informed that the department is carrying out enforcement actions regularly in order to prevent the manufacture, sale and smuggling of illicit liquor.

He further said that continuous action is being taken to ensure that liquor is sold at prescribed price at the excise shops of the state. Taking cognizance of the complaints of sale of liquor at prices higher than the prescribed rate at the excise shops, checking of liquor shops was carried out in various districts of the state .

Apart from this, it was also informed that in view of the possibility of enhanced consumption of liquor in Deepawali festival, the Excise Department with the help of police and administration is conducting a special enforcement drive from November 6 to November 15, 2020 for which detailed guidelines have been issued to the preventive officers for conducting enforcement action against spurious liquor.
