High Court Asks UP To Appoint Chief Information Commissioner In Four Weeks

LUCKNOW || In the petition filed by activist Nutan Thakur for appointment of Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) at the UP Information Commission, the State Government counsel on Friday again told the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court that the process is stalled because leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha Ram Govind Chaudhari is not well.

Taking strong objection to the excuse of the State Government counsel, the bench of Justice Pankaj Kumar Jaiswal and Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh rejected it and directed the State Government to fill the vacancy within four weeks. The Court said that if the State Government fails to appoint the CIC within four weeks, the Chief Secretary will have to file his personal affidavit before the Court.

Nutan has prayed for compliance of the judgment of this Court in another petition filed by her, where the Court had directed the State Government to make an earnest endeavour to expeditiously fill up the post of CIC as per the directions of the Supreme Court.
