Four Inter-state Smugglers Caught With Sandalwood Worth Rs 20 Lakh In Kannauj

Kannauj, Dec 5 (TNA) Police in Kannauj arrested four inter-state smugglers with sandalwood worth Rs 20 lakh on Sunday. SP Kunwar Anupam Singh told reporters that smugglers used to smuggle sandalwood from Madhya Pradesh and sell it to perfume traders. Many others are suspected to be involved in sandalwood smuggling.

The police laid siege and nabbed four interstate sandalwood smugglers with three quintals and 91 kg of sandalwood filled in a loader. During the operation, a smuggler escaped, in whose search the police is raiding several places. Sadar Kotwali in-charge Rajkumar Singh had laid siege on Saraymira-Kannauj road in Kajitola Mohalla near Kotwali at night.

Asif, a resident of Kagaziana Mohalla, Ravi, a resident of Chaudhary Sarai, Saqib, a resident of Shekhana Mohalla and Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Paniyarepurva Jasauli, were caught with the loader.
