Lucknow, March 19 (TNA) Former Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) chief Ajay Kumar Lallu has been sentenced for a one-year prison term and a fine of Rs 10,000 for his derogatory remarks on BJP legislator and former power minister Shrikant Sharma.

The comments were made on the alleged RS 2,600 crore EPF scam in the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) in the first term of the Yogi Adityanath government.

The additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) AK Srivastava while turning down the Congress leaders request on releasing him on probation, also said that in case the fine was not deposited by him, he will have to spend 15 days more in the jail.

Sharma had filed a criminal complaint in the court in 2019 seeking that the court punish Lallu as he had made indecent allegations against him in public. Lallu was summoned and put on trial.
