Lucknow, February 10 (TNA) Former Uttar Pradesh minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Madan Chauhan narrowly escaped an assassination attempt late Monday night in Hapur district’s Garhmukteshwar area, when the assailants’ pistol malfunctioned.

Chauhan, a three-time MLA from Garhmukteshwar who later joined the BJP, was en route to a relative’s engagement in Hirnapura village after exiting the expressway. Three to four youths in a white Fortuner intercepted his vehicle, with one allegedly pulling a pistol and attempting to fire—but the gun jammed. His security team chased them into the darkness.

Police registered an FIR based on Chauhan’s complaint and launched a probe, scanning CCTV footage and setting up checkpoints. ASP Vineet Bhatnagar confirmed Chauhan is safe, noting prior threats from mining mafias. Chauhan recounted the dark road ambush in videos, demanding swift arrests.
