Former IPS Officer Amitabh Thakur Arrested By Lucknow Police

Lucknow, August 27 (TNA) Former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Amitabh Thakur was arrested by the Lucknow Police on Friday. Thakur, it has been alleged, incited a girl who had accused Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Atul Rai of rape, into desperation that she attempted suicide.

The girl later died and the SIT constituted to probe her death has found Amitabh Thakur guilty. An official said he has been arrested on charges of inciting a rape victim to commit suicide.

The SIT had today only field a case against Rai and Thakur in the Hazratganj police after which the arrest was made. It may be mentioned here that on August 21, the girl and a friend had immolated themselves outside the Supreme Court.

They also did a live Facebook video, accusing the BSP lawmaker and Thakur to victimising her. The CM had thereafter formed a committee to probe the allegations. The SIT included IPS Neera Rawat and RK Vishwakarma. Thakur was questioned on
