Former Cop Amitabh Thakur Alleges Breeding Graft In UP Prisons, Sends Complaint To Lokayukta

Lucknow, April 23 (TNA) Former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Amitabh Thakur has presented a complaint to Lokayukta Justice Sanjay Mishra regarding corruption in Lucknow Jail in sale of goods in name of welfare of prisoners. Amitabh said that various goods of daily use, vegetables, Milk products, Beedi etc are sold in Lucknow Jails allegedly for assistance of the prisoners.

He said each good is being sold there at much higher prices. For example, 02 packets of Parle-G buiscuit, Rs. 10 Rin soap and Rs. 10 small toothpaste pack are being sold at Rs. 15-20 each. Similarly 01 Rs. Matchstick pack is being sold at Rs. 5 and Parag half-litre full cream milk pack of Rs. 29 is being sold at Rs. 40. Similarly, every good is being sold at much raised rate. He said he has evidences in this regards.

Amitabh said as per his information, the situation remains same in all the Jails of UP, through which lakhs of rupee per day are said to be generated. Hence he has sought enquiry and action in the matter. Amitabh was in jail for 7 months and has come out on Bail recently.
