Five Drown During Ganpati Immersion In Barabanki

Barabanki, Sep 19 (TNA) Tragedy struck a Ganpati idol immersion event in Barabanki on Sunday as five persons who were part of the do drowned in the Kalyani river, police said. The people who drowned included a mother-son.

PAC divers are looking for the bodies but have so far failed. According to information available, Narayandhar Pandey, who lives in Saadatganj village of Masauli police station, installed a Ganesh idol at his house.

On Sunday, along with family members and villagers, they were going to immerse the idol in Kalyani river. Narayandhar Pandey and Dharmendra Kashyap, who were in the front with the statue, started drowning.

Seeing this, there was panic and Suraj Patwa, son of Madan Patwa of the village tried to rescue them but they also started drowning. To save his brother, elder brother Nilesh Patwa also tried to help but drowned. Seeing both the sons drowning, mother Munni Devi tried to save them by grabbing them with her sari, but in the meantime Munni's foot slipped and she also drowned.

Circle Officer DK Dubey and Kotwal Sumit Srivastava remained helpless. Ramnagar MLA Sharad Awasthi also reached the spot.
