Farmers Take To Streets In Uttar Pradesh, Disrupt Traffic To Protest Against Farmer Bills

LUCKNOW || Protests have bene reported from different parts of Uttar Pradesh by farmers, who are up in arms against the recent farmer laws brought forth by the Narendra Modi government at the centre. The Bharatiya kisan Union is elating the protests at many places.

The Bills - Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, which have been passed by both houses of Parliament and are now awaiting nod by the president.

In addition to Barabanki, Sitapur and Rae Bareli, adjoining the capital Lucknow, farmers in western Uttar Pradesh have also taken to the streets with various party leaders. Hay stacks have been piled up on the roads and lit as mark of protests.

Despite the police being very prompt, there have been attempts to block the road at many places. Under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union, farmers in western Uttar Pradesh have also taken to the road in protest against it.

The agitation in UP is part of the nationwide shutdown of farmers in protest against the Agriculture Bill. 31 farmer organizations have joined the protests which also has the support of various political parties like the Congress, RJD, Samajwadi Party, Akali Dal, AAP and TMC.

Hundreds of farmers arrived in the Tehsil in Mohanlalganj, Lucknow. Farmers have also blocked the Ayodhya-Lucknow highway in Barabanki. Commuters are facing a lot of trouble due to the farmer movement. Long lines of vehicles are installed on both sides of the highway.
