Death of Woman-Daughter In Kanpur Dehat: Allahabad HC Seeks Probe Report From UP Govt

Prayagraj, February 24 (TNA) The Allahabad High Court has sought an inquiry report from the state government on the burning of a mother and daughter in Kanpur Dehat during an anti-encroachment drive.

The HC while hearing a PIL filed in connection with the death of a woman and her daughter due to burns during encroachment removal in Kanpur Dehat, has sought a progress report from the Uttar Pradesh government.

Not only this, the court has also sought an affidavit of the Home Secretary in this matter. The court will hear the matter on March 16. The order was passed by a bench headed by Justice MK Gupta on a PIL filed by Avnish Kumar Pandey.

A petition has been filed demanding that the court itself intervene in the investigation launched by the government and monitor it. On Thursday, the court was told by the state government that the government has taken immediate action after the incident.

The court was informed that the officers have been suspended and an FIR has also been lodged against the culprits for murder and attempt to murder. The court was told that the government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident along with the Special Investigation Team and Rs five lakh has been given to the family of the deceased.
