Controversy Erupts Over Appointment Of New Chairman Of The Elders Committee Of The Allahabad High Court Bar Association

Prayagraj, August 25 (TNA) A controversy has erupted over the appointment of the new chairman of the Elders Committee of the High Court Bar Association done recently. Several members, including former Bar officials, have filed a public interest litigation in the High Court, demanding timely election of the Bar Association and removal of the new chairman and appointment of the chairman as per the by-laws. A petition has been filed in the High Court regarding the selection validity of the chairman of the Elder Committee.

The petition has referred to the resolution passed in the general meeting of the Bar Association in 2015-16. It has been said in the petition that the Supreme Court and the High Court have passed the principle of one-time-one-vote (voter in one bar association only).

In the petition, it has been demanded that the election of the Bar Association be conducted on time and to appoint the chairman of the Elder Committee as per the bylaws. It has also been said in the petition that a resolution was passed to ban the members of the Advocate Association from contesting the elections of the Bar Association and becoming a member of the Elder Committee.

On the basis of which senior advocate GS Chaturvedi, a member of the Advocates Association, cannot be made the chairman or member of the Elder Committee, the petition says.
