Clash Between BHU Students-Street Vendors Leaves Seven Injured

Varanasi, February 12 (TNA) An ugly brawl between some students of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and street vendors in the Lanka ocality shattered the peace in the holy town, with bricks and stones being pelted from both sides on Saturday night.

In no time, the matter raged and the argument turned into a fight. After this, near the small gate of BHU Hospital, there was heavy brick and stone pelting on the Lanka to Naria Marg and there was a situation of chaos.

It started with a scuffle that broke out between a shopkeeper and the students of BHU late on Saturday night at a tea shop located on Malviya Chauraha to Naria Marg in Lanka area of Varanasi.

Shopkeeper Babu Sonkar, who was injured in the assault and stone pelting, said that some students of BHU had come late night to drink tea and smoke cigarettes at a shop outside the small gate of Sir Sunderlal Hospital after celebrating a birthday party and all hell broke loose thereafter on some issue.

Some youths claiming to be students of BHU also overturned the furnace and counter of Lalchand Sonkar, who runs a tea stall. Six to seven people were injured in the fighting and stone pelting. After getting the information of this incident, the police of Lanka police station reached the spot and chased everyone away.
