CAT Seeks Reply In Amitabh Thakur Compulsory Retirement Case

Lucknow, June16 (TNA) The Lucknow bench of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) on Wednesday sought reply of the Central Government and the State Government in the petition filed by ex UP IPS officer Amitabh Thakur challenging his Compulsory retirement.

The bench of Administrative member A Mukhopadhyaya passed this order after hearing Amitabh, Union counsel Prayagmati Gupta and UP Government counsel S S Rajawat.

The former IPS had told CAT that the decision being summary and cryptic in nature which did not disclose any reason for the action taken. He also informed the tribunal that he represented before the Ministry of Home Affairs but no reason have been given so far.

The information sought by him has been denied even in RTI, firstly under section 8(1)(i) and later under section 8(1)(j) of RTI Act.

The Union and State counsel sought eight weeks to file their reply, which was strongly objected by Amitabh saying that he is facing social and financial distress because of this order. He said he needs only one week to file his reply to the Counter affidavits and wants speedy finalization of the case.

CAT granted six weeks to both Union and State Government to file their reply, fixing August 21 as next date of hearing.

Amitabh has said in his petition that the Government of India and UP Government orders are have been passed merely for malafide intent because of personal and systemic bias against him.
