Case Filed Against 500 For Violating Covid Protocol At Shahji Miyan Dargah 'Urs' In Pilibhit

Lucknow, July 29 (TNA) A case of violating the Covid protocol has been registered against 500 persons in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh, an official said late on Wednesday. All those booked for violation were at the 118th 'Urs' at the Shahji Miyan dargah, followed by millions.

According to an official, while permission for his annual fare was granted only for 50 people, the police acted when complaints of a gross violation of the permission was received by the district administration.

The urs had not taken place for the past two times because of the pandemic but this time it was allowed with caveats.

Mohit Kumar, the station house officer (SHO) of Kamalle police station has filed a complaint that the event which took place on July 15-16, with permission of crowd strength and strict orders that no devotee will be allowed from outside, violated these guidelines.

Videography was done and it showed that thousands of devotees had turned up for the event, most of them were neither wearing mask nor maintaining social distancing. After the report of the SHO was received, a case under sections 188, 269 and 270 of the Pandemic Act has been filed against unknown persons and the organisers.

Many pictures of the event had also surfaced in the social media, prompting the police to take action.
