Army Trooper Arrested For Chain Snatching In Meerut, Is A National Level Athlete Also And So Is His Accomplice

Lucknow, August 5 (TNA) In times when sportspersons are doing India proud at the Tokyo Olympics, a national level athlete, working in the Indian Army have been arrested by the Meerut Police for chain snatching.

One of the athlete is a national player in hundred metres race while his absconding associate is a national runner in 400-metre racing. On July 24, Riya, a resident of West End Road in Sadar Bazar police station area, was robbed of her chain by two bike riders.

The police began investigation and on Tuesday, based on CCTV footage and a tip-off, , the police arrested Akash, a resident of Kheda village in Sardhana area.

During interrogation, he said that he is a trooper in the army. His deployment is in the Rajputana Regiment at Rajouri, Jammu. He had come home for a holiday and his fugitive partner Sunny hails from Chhur village is also a soldier in the Army artillery. He is currently deployed in Hyderabad. He had also come on holiday.

Police said that military officers are being contacted to nab the absconding Sunny. On Wednesday, it was revealed that Akash is the national athlete of the 100 meter race, while Sunny is the national athlete of the 400 meter race. In army recruitment, both got the benefit of sports quota.

SP City Vineet Bhatnagar said that the arrested accused has been sent to jail after being produced in court on Wednesday.

Police officials have contacted army officers to nab the absconding accused Army jawan Sunny. The report of both will be sent to their units soon.
