AMU's Medical College And Mass Communication Get Top Ranking

ALIGARH || Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) contributes immensely to every academic discipline. Its intent on quality teaching and research is reflected in national and international rankings, which time and again make AMU, one of the most acclaimed learning centres.

Adding yet another feather in its cap, the Outlook-ICARE Ranking 2020 has guerdoned AMU by placing its Department of Mass Communication on the fourth rank among the institutes offering mass communication courses, the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) at the fifth position in the list of medical colleges, the Faculty of Law on the sixth rank among law colleges and institutes, the Department of Social Work at the ninth position in the centres of learning teaching social work and the Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET) as the 28th best engineering institution in the country.

The Department of Mass Communication, which features as the fourth best in its category provides effective theoretical groundings and extensive training to create the optimal study and learning environment for students. The department is equipped with a three-camera studio and the Frank and Debbie Islam Auditorium.

JNMC at the fifth rank has been placed in the league of elite medical colleges of the country with likes of AIIMS New Delhi, IMS BHU, JIPMER Punducherry and KGMU Lucknow. JNMC, which has been declared a dedicated Level 2 Covid Hospital by the Government, is equipped with ultra-modern facilities for plasma therapy and its Virology Lab is testing Covid samples from many cities in Western Uttar Pradesh including Noida.

The AMU Medical College recently achieved a boost in super specialty section as the Medical Council of India (MCI) sanctioned two seats of DM cardiology to the institute. After the MCH course in plastic surgery, this is going to be the 2nd specialty course offered by JNMC. The Union Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' inaugurated the JNMC Examination Centre through a video conferencing platform on August 26.

The Faculty of Law, squarely placed at the sixth rank among law colleges and institutes runs a five year BA LL.B (Integrated) course, a two-year LL.M and three PG Diploma Courses in various specializations. While the Department of Social Work, which sits comfortably at the ninth position runs doctoral, masters and graduate programmes in Social Work.

The ZHCET at the 28th position is one of the most advanced engineering colleges of the country with its students availing the best employment opportunities in India and abroad.

"Like every renowned institution, AMU has also produced leaders in practically every sphere. The University provides education with furnished indigenous content, while competing with the most coveted learning centres in India," said the Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor.

He added that AMU has been performing at par excellence in all metrics covering the full range of core activities for research, teaching, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

This success has come due to the hard work and dedication of faculty members and the performance of students and it is hoped that the efficiency will be further enhanced in the coming years, said Prof Mansoor.

Prof M Salim Beg (Chairman, Committee for Ranking) said: "The ranking underlines the strength of higher education and research at AMU. The university has done well on various parameters important to all nationwide and worldwide rankings in addition to co-curricular and extracurricular actions."
