Aligarh, January 19 (TNA) Young talents from Aligarh Muslim University have brought glory to the institution with their remarkable performances at the 67th National Shooting Championship, held at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range, New Delhi, from December 11, 2024, to January 19, 2025.

Sabeera Haris, a Class XI student of Senior Secondary School (girls), created history by securing four medals—two gold and two silver—in the women’s trap shotgun event. Competing in both junior and senior categories, she scored an impressive 111/125 and reached the top six finals. Sabeera clinched silver medals in the individual events and won gold in the mixed team event, representing Uttar Pradesh. She is the first junior girl in Indian shooting history to achieve such a remarkable feat.

Zuhair Khan, a second-year B.Tech student, represented Uttar Pradesh by winning two bronze medals in the Junior Trap Shooting (Individual) category and the Trap Shooting Team event. He also qualified for the senior finals, where he finished 4th after entering in 5th position, narrowly missing a medal. Competing against seasoned national and Asian champions, Zuhair showcased exceptional talent and determination.

He was just one point shy of the silver medal in the junior category, further cementing his reputation as a rising star in Indian shotgun shooting. AMU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Naima Khatoon, commended Zuhair and Sabeera for their achievements, stating that their performance reflects the university's rich sports heritage and dedication to nurturing talent and excellence.
