Allahabad High Court Bar Association Elections To Be Held In December

Prayagraj, Oct 1 (TNA) The annual election of the High Court Bar Association for the year 2021-22 will be held on December 1. Along with this, names of the members of the Elder Committee have also been fixed. On October 18, a meeting of the general body has been called and instructions have been given to start the election process.

After March 2019, the general elections of the bar could not be held due to the ongoing Corona pandemic. In this regard, advocate Santosh Kumar Mishra and others had filed a PIL challenging the appointment of senior advocate GS Chaturvedi as the chairman of the Elder Committee. There was also a demand to hold elections.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice MN Bhandari and Justice Piyush Agrawal, hearing the matter, requested both the parties (petitioners and the Bar Executive) to settle the matter by mutual consent.

At the behest of the court, both parties formed a committee of five senior advocates and held a meeting, but no consensus could be reached. When the matter reached the court again, on the request of the court, the names of two senior advocates each were suggested for the Elder Committee.

Whereas the court itself named Additional Solicitor General Shashi Prakash Singh for the post of chairman, names of senior advocates NC Rajvanshi, TP Singh, OP Singh and Anil Tiwari were decided for the Elder Committee.
