Allahabad HC To Hear On August 23 A PIL Seeking Removal Of Mathura’s Eidgah Mosque And Excavation Of The Premises

Prayagraj, August 7 (TNA) The Allahabad High Court will hear on August 23, a public interest litigation (PIL) filed in 2020, seeking removal of Mathura's Idgah Mosque and excavation of the premises by the ASI. The PIL seeks recognition of the Shahi Idgah mosque site in Mathura as the birthplace of Krishna.

This PIL, filed by advocate Mehak Maheshwari in 2020, was earlier dismissed in default in January 2021, however, it was reinstated in March 2022. Now on Monday, the matter was mentioned by the petitioner Mehak Maheshwari through personal video conferencing.

Placed before the bench of Chief Justice Pritinkar Diwakar and Justice Ashutosh Srivastava, the court expressed its inability to hear the petitioner Mehak Maheshwari clearly, after which the High Court fixed the matter for hearing on August 23.

Advocate Mehak Maheshwari has prayed in the PIL that the land of the temple should be handed over to the Hindus and a proper trust should be constituted for the Krishna Janmabhoomi birthplace to build a temple on the said land. In the interim, the petition has sought permission for Hindus to worship at the mosque a few days a week and on Janmashtami, till the disposal of the petition.
