Allahabad HC Orders Scientific Survey Of Alleged Shivling Found In Gyanvapi Mosque Premises In Varanasi

Prayagraj, May 12 (TNA) In a significant development, the Allahabad High Court (HC) on Friday reversed the order of the Varanasi district court and ordered carbon dating of the alleged ‘Shivling’ found in the Gyanvapi Mosque premises in Kashi. The case was heard in a single bench of Justice Arvind Kumar Mishra-I in the Allahabad High Court.

The court has ordered the ASI to determine the age of the alleged Shivling. The HC gave this order on a report submitted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to the court on May 11. The court has asked the ASI to conduct a scientific survey without damaging the Shivling. Senior advocates Hari Shankar Jain, Vishnu Shankar Jain, Prabhash Pandey presented their side in the court on behalf of the Hindu side.

The civil revision petition was filed by Lakshmi Devi and 3 others on behalf of the Hindu side. The Varanasi District Court last year on October 14, 2022 had rejected the Hindu side's demand for carbon dating, after which the Hindu side challenged the decision of the District Judge Varanasi in the Allahabad High Court. The court has accepted the petition of the Hindu side after arguments from both the sides.
