Allahabad HC Expresses Displeasure Over Investigation Of Cyber Crimes In UP

Prayagraj, January 8 (TNA) The Allahabad High Court (HC) has expressed its displeasure over the lapses in the investigation of cybercrime cases and has sought a detailed report from the DGP on the matter. The top cop has been asked on how prepared is the police of the state to investigate the cases of cybercrime.

The HC also wants to know whether the police has been given the responsibility to conduct the investigation of cyber crime cases to any expert body or the police takes advice from IT experts in the investigation of cyber crimes.

This order was given by Justice Ajay Bhanot while hearing the bail application of Sabu, accused of defaming and blackmailing a teenager by posting obscene pictures and videos on Facebook. During the hearing in this case, the court found that in the information sent by the police to the court, it did not tell which person made the video of the teenager. Whether the device from which the video was made was confiscated or not, other details about that device were also not given.

Police had not given information about who uploaded the videos and pictures on Facebook and how they were circulated. The court said that in the cases of cyber crime, it is constantly being seen that the information being sent by the police is completely incomplete. This shows that the police probing cyber crime cases are not able to catch the right line of investigation.
