33 Crore Doses And Counting, UP Leads India’s Covid Vaccination Drive

UP continues to be the state with most Covid tests and at the vanguard of vaccination drive, Over 3.61 cr vaccine doses administered to children

Lucknow, June 8 (TNA) Keeping the pace of vaccination in top gear, the state of Uttar Pradesh continues to lead India’s vaccination drive with over 33 crore total doses of Covid-19 vaccine administered so far.

The state continues to conduct one of the most successful vaccination campaigns in the country since the rollout of the mass immunisation drive along with conducting the highest number of Covid Tests. At least 33.05 crore out of the total 194 crore doses administered in the country are from UP.

In addition to its unparalleled covid control mechanism, Uttar Pradesh, in the entire country, also appeared as the only state to test more than 115,208,267 samples for Covid-19 so far. The testing was particularly ramped up to reach the rural pockets of the state. On the contrary, resource-rich states like Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Kerala have continued to lag in terms of Covid testing.

Committed to providing additional protection cover to the people, Uttar Pradesh started administering booster shots (precaution dose) from January 10. Over 32.37 lakh ‘precaution doses’ have been administered in the state so far.

Strengthening its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the Uttar Pradesh government is providing vaccination cover to all children between 12 to 17 years of age in a time-bound manner. So far, over 2,49,77,612 vaccine doses have been administered to children in the age group of 15-17 and over 1,12,09,139 vaccine doses have been administered to children in the age group of 12-14 in the state.

UP is followed by Maharashtra with 16.74 crore doses administered so far. In terms of percentage, about 93.44 per cent of the adult population is fully vaccinated and 100 percent have received one vaccine dose.

In the age category of 15-17, over 98 percent of the children have received at least one dose of the vaccine. While nearly 80 percent in this age category is fully vaccinated.
