19-Year-Old Hathras Gang-Rape Victim Dies At Safdarjung Hospital

LUCKNOW || The 19-year-old girl who was gang-raped a fortnight ago in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh and then brutally assaulted, her tongue slit, died at teh Safdarjung hospital in the union capital on Tuesday. She had been in critical condition ever since the shameful incident and could not win the battle for life.

The Dalit girl was first gang-raped by local boys on September 14 and then critically injured by a brutal assault. She was initially admitted to the JN Medical College in Aligarh but due to her critical condition was referred to the Safdarjung hospital in New Delhi.

It is alleged that the police initially dilly-dallied in reporting the crime and lodging an FIR. The victim was sent by a life support ambulance to Delhi on Monday. Heavy police reinforcements have been rushed to Hathras to ensure no untoward incident. All the four accused have since been arrested.
