18 Killed In Barabanki Road Mishap As Truck Rams Into Bus Headed To Bihar

Lucknow, July 28 (TNA) At least 18 persons were killed and a dozen injured in a road mishap late on Tuesday night in the Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place when a static bus parked at the road side, as it was afcing a technical snag, was hit by a speeding truck from the rear on the busy Lucknow-Ayodhya National Highway in Ram Sanehi Ghat police station area.

Police said the dead included both passengers of the bus and some others sleeping on the roadside. Eleven people died on the spot while seven died on way to the hospital. Critically wounded passengers have been rushed to the KGMU trauma center in Lucknow.

The ill-fated vehicle was coming from Haryana and was headed to Bihar. Barabanki SP Yamuna Prasad, SDM Jitendra Katiyar and CO Pankaj Singh reached the spot as the news of the horrible road accident reached them at around 2:30 am. They oversaw the relief and rescue operations.

There were 140 passengers in the bus, mostly from Bihar. The deceased have been identified as natives of Sitamarhi and Darbhanga in Bihar.
