125-Year-Old Seer Gets Second Covid Jab In Varanasi, The Oldest In Country To Be Vaccinated

Varanasi, Nov 2 (TNA) The success of the massive pan-Indian Covid vaccination drive is being attributed to the health workers, frontline warriors who have been relentlessly working to innoculate every person eligible. While there was initial stigma at some places, there has been a widespread support for the innoculation drive.

And so was on show in Varanasi on Monday when a 125-year-old seer - Swami Sivananda got his second dose of the vaccine administered. Not to stop at this, he even appealed to everyone to come forward for vaccination. Baba Shivanand is apparently the oldest man in the country to get the corona vaccine.

After the second dose of corona vaccine was administered at Durgakund, the urban community health center located in the CMO office premises, Baba also gave a message that one can live for years by taking special care of health.

On being asked, Baba told reporters that along with doing regular yoga in the morning, he eats food without oil and spices. The seer lives alone, is still healthy and there are no reported diseases in him, his companion informed.

In-charge Medical Officer Dr. Sarika Rai said that Swami Shivanand Baba, originally resident of Calcutta, has been residing in Kashi for the last several years. He had administered the first dose on June 9.

When he showed his Aadhaar card, Voter ID card, the employees sitting at the registration counter were at first startled and kept staring at Baba. As soon as it came to know that 125-year-old Baba has to be vaccinated, then on the basis of it, his date of birth was mentioned on August 8, 1896.

Originally a resident of Srihatt district of Bengal, Baba Sivananda has been living in Kabirnagar Colony in Bhelupur, Varanasi for almost 40 years. On being asked, Baba told reporters that along with doing regular yoga in the morning, he eats food without oil and spices. The seer lives alone, is still healthy and there are no reported diseases in him, his companion informed.
