Three-year-old From Barabanki Undergoes Rare Surgery At JNMC

Aligarh, March 5 (TNA) A three-year-old Ayesha who would always suffer a blue tinge to the skin and become tired with rapid breathing between feedings, sweat excessively and one who was not gaining weight underwent a six-hour long rare surgery for a congenital anomaly of heart condition at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

She will now grow up like any other normal child thanks to the free-of-cost treatment under the Rashtriya Bal Swathya Karyakram (RBSK) scheme that came to the rescue of the parents of the girl from Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh.

“We first went to private hospitals that were charging exorbitant fees and later to some government speciality centres—where there were endless waiting rows. We are content that the successful surgery at JNMC will allow our only child to grow in good health”, said the Ayesha’s parents.

Prof Mohd Azam Haseen (Chairman, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery) who supervised the surgery said: “Dr MayankYadav, Dr Shamayal Rabbani and Dr Sartaj Guroo successfully repaired the child’s great vessels that were inverted with a hole in heart and pulmonary valve stenosis, the narrowing of the valve located between the lower right heart chamber and the lung arteries”.
