Online Petition For Cleaning And Rejuvenation of Yamuna River In Agra

Agra, October 29 (TNA) In a first, an online petition has been moved for the rejuvenation and cleaning of river Yamuna, the lifeline of the Taj city of Agra in Uttar Pradesh. The initiative has come through change.org, wherein a group of river lovers - River Connect is already getting huge support from the people of the city and even from other places.

Brija Khandelwal of the River Connect informed that the moment the petition crosses the 500 mark, it will be directly sent to prime minister Narendra Modi for action. It is already near the mark set for this, he added.

The environmentalists in the city have reminded PM Modi of his speech at the Hothi Meena Bazaar way back in November of 2013, when he had spoken of the urgent and sincere need of cleanliness of Yamuna river.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari, it has been pointed out had also spoken of starting a ferry service in Yamuna. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in 2017 had also announced that a barrage will be built on the Taj Mahal downstream. None of these things has materialised so far.
