Community Medicine Students Of AMU Attend Lecture On Fortified Rice

Aligarh, May 13 (TNA) The department of Community Medicine, JNMC, AMU sent a team of 22 Post Graduates and 3 Medico-social workers to attend a lecture so that they can be sensitized on envisioning dietary diversification for every household by eliminating micronutrient deficiency and achieving iron deficiency free world through rice fortification. The lecture was organized by the World Food Programme in collaboration with New Concept Information System Pvt. Ltd. at DM Collectorate.

Keynote speaker Niranjana Kumar representing the Food and Agricultural Organization, spoke on the composition and advantages of fortified rice with respect to the status of malnutrition in India.

The fortified rice will be made available to the public through ration shops, expected in Aligarh from March, 2023. The department of Community Medicine will take the lead in spreading awareness about the fortified rice so that the community may increase the consumption of rice, said Prof Mehnaz, Chairman, Department of Community Medicine. The lecture was also attended by District magistrate of Aligarh, Selva Kumari.
