Vrindavan Widows Send 251 Rakhi To PM Modi

Mathura, August 21 (TNA) Like in the past years, widows of Vrindavan have sent hundreds of Rakhi's to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Rakhsha Bandhan. Before Covid era some widows used to visit PM’s house in New Delhi to tie Rakhi's in person on the writs of PM Modi but now they have to settle for long distance ritual.

Though widows are again missing personal meeting with Prime Minister on the festival of affection between brothers and sisters, they have prepared 251 special Rakhi's with images of Modi and similar quantity of special Vrindavan themed cotton masks.

These sacred threads containing colourful photo of Modi were prepared by a group of old aged Widows living in Maa Sarda and Radha Tila Ashrams in Vrindavan.

With an aim to break the social stigma, well known Social Reformer and founder of Sulabh Movement Bindeshwar Pathak had started organising all important Hindu rituals for Widows living in Vrindavan.

“The ongoing corona crisis disheartened these Widows but it didn’t shatter their sprit so they started preparing Rakhis and special Vrindavan themed masks for Modi. Some of rakhi's contains photo of Prime Minister with covered face", says Vinita Verma, Vice President of Sulabh Hope foundation.

Around 77 old Usha Dasi who had personally tied rakhi to the Prime Minister looked though disheartened as she has spent her days inside her ashram for the last five months but she is happy that her rakhi's and masks are being sent to Modi. “I have personally designed special masks carrying messages like ‘Stay safe’ and ‘Atamnirbhar’, she informed.
