Three-day Online Science Fest At Aligarh Muslim University

Aligarh, July 8 (TNA) “Science is one of the creative endeavours of the human mind and there is a need for creating a science culture in the society. Science has the power of changing the lives of the people for their better living”, said Vice Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor while addressing the inaugural session of a three day Online Science Fest as Chief Guest organised by Faculty of Science, AMU on Wednesday.

While appreciating the initiative taken by the students to organize the fest, Prof. Mansoor informed that AMU is introducing two new courses – MSc Data Science and MSc Cyber Security & Digital Forensics, and assured all help to students in exploring more career opportunities.

The three day Fest aims at providing better job opportunities to the students while focusing on Data Science, Python and Excel. The online fest was joined by students mainly freshers who were welcomed by the organizers.

Addressing the fest, Prof Qazi Mazhar Ali (Dean Faculty of Science, AMU), said that we must have a system which lays importance on development of a scientific culture. He appreciated the efforts of students and the computer center, AMU for organizing the fest and showed confidence that such programs will help in learning the skills of computer software which are in demand for job market.

AMU Public Relation Officer Omar Peerzada said visionary who carved a space for rationalist thought, gave a new direction to education, and laid the parameters of modernist approach need to be revisited. Sir Syed’s three gospels of pure morality, large hearted tolerance and free enquiry is the need of the hour. Adhering to age old practices without understanding the pulse of the time and age we live in is completely against the Aligarian culture.

Dr Mohammad Zain Khan (Dept of Chemistry) discussed emerging careers in Sciences including Government and corporate jobs for the students as well as higher education opportunities within and outside India. He also enlightened the students about the flagship Start-Up program of the GOI to support young entrepreneurs for innovation and employment generation.

The Data Science Excel Workshop was conducted in the afternoon session with the resource person Assistant Professor, Department of Petroleum Studies, Dr Mohd Yusuf Ansari while the session was chaired by Prof Aquil Ahmed (Dept. of Statistics and Operations Research).
