Mumbai, October 20 (TNA) Veteran Bollywood actor Govardhan Asrani, widely known simply as Asrani, passed away on Monday, in Mumbai after a prolonged illness. He was 84 years old. Asrani’s last rites were performed at the Santacruz Crematorium in Mumbai.

Over a remarkable career spanning more than five decades, Asrani appeared in over 350 Hindi films, earning a special place as one of Indian cinema’s most beloved comic actors.

Asrani was renowned for his impeccable comic timing and memorable roles, especially the iconic jailer in the classic film “Sholay,” which remains an immortal part of Indian pop culture.

His versatile talent shone through his work in comedy, drama, and even direction, bridging generations with his enduring appeal. He worked alongside legendary actors like Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra and Govinda, and his contributions to Hindi cinema have left an indelible mark.
