Supreme Court Puts On Hold Scientific Survey Of The “Shivling” Found In Gyanvapi Mosque Complex In Varanasi

New Delhi, May 19 (TNA) The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday deferred the “scientific survey”, including carbon dating, of a “Shivling” that is said to have been found in the Gyanvapi mosque complex in Varanasi during a videographic survey last year.

Hearing a petition by the Maszid Committee, the apex court said that the implications of the Allahabad High Court order that allowed carbon dating of the “Shivling” merit closer scrutiny. It furtehr said that hence implementation of the directions concerned in the HC order “shall stand deferred till the next date”

The SC also issued notices to the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government on plea of mosque panel against HC order for scientific survey, carbon dating of the alleged Shivling, as ordered on May 12 this year. The Supreme Court has fixed August 7 as the next date on the matter.
