Railways Earned Rs 1500 crore By Doing Away With Senior Citizen Ticket Concessions

New Delhi, May 17 (TNA) Indian Railways has raked in big-time moolah by doing away with the discounts given to the elderly on tickets since the Corona epidemic. An RTI has revealed that the Railways earned an additional revenue of about Rs 1,500 crore in the two years since March 2020.

This RTI was filed on behalf of Chandrashekhar Gaur of Madhya Pradesh. In response, the Railways said that between March 20, 2020 and March 31, 2022, Indian Railways did not provide any discount on tickets to 7.31 crore elderly passengers traveling in trains. Of these, 4 crore 46 lakh men above the age of sixty years and 2 crore 84 lakh women above 58 years were included.
