Poll Schedule For Bihar Assembly Announced, First Major Elections Amid COVID Pandemic

NEW DELHI || The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday afternoon announced the poll dates and schedule for the state assembly elections in Bihar. The election will be held in three phases on October 28, November 3 and 7 and the results will be announced on November 10.

Briefing the media, The elections, which will see election of 243 new law makers to the Bihar state assembly, would be the first of this magnitude to be held amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

Briefing the media about the polls, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora called it a "historic election" and the world's biggest in the time of COVID-19.

There will be an extra voting hour, separate voting for Covid patients, suspects and those in quarantine, and no physical contact during the campaign, he announced.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is running a coalition government with the BJP, will fight for a fourth term in these polls.
