People, Chartered Accountants Demand ITR and Audit Due Date Extension Amid Filing Nightmares, Trend Grips Social Media
Lucknow, September 13 (TNA) The hashtags #Extend_Due_Date_Immediately, #extend_ITR_TAR_duedates, and #ExtendAuditDueDate are trending as tax professionals, chartered accountants, and taxpayers across India demand more time to file Income Tax Returns (ITR) and Tax Audit Reports (TAR) for AY 2025–26.
Although the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) already extended the non-audit ITR deadline to September 15, many users report ongoing portal glitches, delayed release of forms and utilities, and disruptions due to floods and adverse weather in several states.
Multiple professional associations—including ICAI and regional CA cells—have written to the Finance Minister, citing operational challenges, system errors, and tight filing timelines, urging further extensions for both audited and non-audited cases.
Social media is abuzz with frustrations over processing delays, mismatch errors, and fears of penalty for late filing, with thousands of posts each day amplifying the demand for a one-month extension to help ensure compliance and avoid last-minute rush.
As of September 11, more than 5 crore returns were filed—still short of last year’s numbers—and the pressure is mounting on tax authorities to respond amidst widespread taxpayer anxiety and mounting technical issues.
