Massive Fire Kills Nine Employees At Srisailam Hydroelectric Plant, Probe Ordered

The fire broke out in the panels in unit 1 of the power station which led to the accident.

HYDERABAD || Nine employees trapped inside the Srisailam Left Bank Hydel Power Station (SLBHP) of the Srisailam reservoir in Telangana died in the fire accident, Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited (TSGENCO) said in a statement on Friday night.

The fire broke out in the 900 MW capacity hydro-electric power station on the left bank of Srisailam reservoir at 10.30 pm last night. The fire broke out in the panels in unit 1 of the power station which led to the accident.

The employees tried to put off the fire and save the plant from burning according to the statement issued by Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited.

Telangana government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 50 lakh rupees to the family of the Divisional Engineer, Srinivas Goud who died in the inferno.
State Government

Telangana Power Minister Jagadeeswar Reddy, TS GENCO CMD Devulapalli Prabhakar Rao, GENCO directors and senior employees rushed to the spot and monitored the rescue operations. NDRF, Singareni coal mines technicians and Telangana state fire services rushed to the plant and tried to rescue the trapped employees.

Telangana government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 50 lakh rupees to the family of the Divisional Engineer, Srinivas Goud who died in the inferno. Kin of others, who lost their life in the accident will be given Rs 25 lakh. The State government has ordered a CID inquiry into the incident. Additional DGP Govind Singh has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer.

President, Vice President and Prime Minister have expressed grief on the loss of lives in a fire accident at Srisailam hydroelectric plant in Telangana. In a tweet, President Ram Nath Kovind said, he is pained by the loss of lives in the tragic fire accident. He said, in this hour of grief, his thoughts are with the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery of the injured.
