Maharashtra Farmer Reaps A Windfall Amid Price Surge, Earns Over ₹2.8 Crore Selling Tomatoes

Pune, July 18 (TNA) Amidst the soaring tomato prices nationwide, a farmer couple in Maharashtra's Pune district has made a staggering ₹2.8 crore from tomato sales. Ishwar Gayakar and his wife from Pune's Junnar taluka aim to reach ₹3.5 crore with their remaining stock of 3000 to 4000 crates of tomatoes.

Working hard on their 12-acre farm for several years, they persevered through losses, and this year's bumper crop brought unexpected success. Previously expecting ₹30 per kg for tomatoes, Gayakar's fortunes turned in this season.

He credits his family's blessings and his wife's dedicated work on the farm for their achievements. Apart from tomatoes, they also cultivate onions and flowers seasonally. The Centre has now reduced the wholesale price of tomatoes from ₹90 to ₹80 per kg in selected cities.
