Laptop And Tablet Import Ban To Come Into Effect From November 1

New Delhi, August 5 (TNA) The government's decision to ban laptop and tablet imports will now come into effect from November 1. The commerce and industry ministry, in a notification issued on Friday night, extended the deadline for implementing the ban. It has also been said in this notification that all the goods already imported can be imported without license till 31st October.

License will be mandatory for import of these goods from November 1. Laptops, tablets, personal computers, ultra-small computers and servers will come under the purview of this notification. Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that there will be a transition period for the new norms related to the import of tablets and laptops.

A notification in this regard will be issued soon. A few hours after the minister's statement, the ministry issued a notification. Actually the IT industry had sought 3-6 months time from the government. Based on this, the government has given the industry about 3 months time.
