Karcher India Partners With Prayas To Ensure Hygienic Working Conditions For Rag pickers
New Delhi, December 26 (TNA) Cleaning solutions leader, Karcher India has partnered with Prayas to ensure hygienic and healthy work environment to rag pickers in East Delhi. The company offered PPE kits to over 500 rag pickers at Jahangirpuri in East Delhi, while Prayas educated them on waste management and preventive measures.
A lot of garbage clearing is done informally, by rag pickers who work without any job security, salary or dignity, and they are often exposed to cuts, infections, diseases and tuberculosis apart from poverty.
The informal nature of rag-picking makes it difficult to quantify the amount of waste collected, but here are some rough estimates. Municipalities collect 75-80% of the country's waste. In India, many people do not have a proper waste disposal system, or kits provided.
While Karcher India has been operating in India for the last 11 years and is offering innovative cleaning solutions both in home & garden, and industrial segments, the non-governmental organization, Prayas strives to empower underprivileged children, youth and women through education and skill development.
“Kärcher India has been committed to cleanliness and hygienic environment. Taking the same commitment forward, we partnered with Prayas to provide better working conditions and extend dignity to the rag pickers in this part of the city. Through such small efforts, which we plan to continue in different cities and locations going forward, we want to play our role in achieving the government's vision of Clean India,” Jatinder Kaul, Managing Director - Karcher India, said.
Retd. DGP and founder Prayas, Amod Kanth hailed the initiative saying, “For years our society has undermined the work of cleaners, we at Prayas are committed to uplifting and empowering people who are not so privileged. Going forward, the aim is to work on special projects with the teams there to uplift skilled segments of society, and ensure a heightened dignity of life for them. I salute cleaners for their valuable contribution to ensuring a clean environment so that we live in a healthy world.”
