Jobs In Media And Publishing Industry Shrink Alarmingly: Report

Lucknow, Sep 23 (TNA) Five years ago around the same time, the media and publishing industry employed over 10.3 lakh people across India. As of now in September 2021 it merely employs 2.3 lakh. That means 78% of media employees have either lost their jobs or left the industry in the past five years.

If one takes a 12-month comparison, then the decline in the past four years is of 56%. Media and publishing jobs have dropped from 8.3 lakh to 3.7 lakh, according to a CMIE report.

The big fall in media and publishing jobs took place in early 2018. The shrinking started as early as late 2018 and ever since the jobs have been moving within a narrow band, till the Covid second wave caused another collapse in 2021.
