Fresh Spike In Covid Cases, 90% More Cases Than Previous Day

Lucknow, April 18 (TNA) Even as the state of Uttar Pradesh continues to record not many fresh cases of Covid, new infections have logged a new high across India in the past 24-hours. This has lead to worry in the helthcare sector and the government. As per government data, 2,183 new Covid cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours, which is a jump of almost 90% over the previous day.

The daily death count too climbed sharply to 214. Although the death numbers include a backlog of 62 from Kerala, it is still a huge spike from the just four deaths in yesterday's bulletin. New cases have grown alarmingly in New Delhi, neighbouring Noida and Ghaziabad.

In both the NCR cities of Uttar Pradesh, many school going children have also got infected in the past few days, prompting parents to demand that the schools revert back to the online system for a while.

According to media reports quoting a survey, it has been seen that the number of people in the NCR reporting someone getting infected in their close social network rose by 500 per cent in the last 15 days.
