‘Ek Takar Daktar’ Padma Shri Sushovan Banerjee Passes Away
Kolkata, July 26 (TNA) Dr Sushovan Banerjee, known popularly as "Ek Takar Daktar" or a one rupee doctor passed away on Tuesday. He was 60. He treated patients generouslu, charging jusr rs one. He was an ex-MLA from Bolpur seat and had contested on Congress ticket in 1984.
In the year 2020, he received the highest civilian honour of the country: the Padma Shri. The same year his name was recorded in the Guinness World Records for treating the maximum number of patients. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and prime minister Narendra Modi have condoled the demise of Banerjee.
"Sad to know of the demise of benevolent doctor Sushovan Bandyopadhyay. The famed one-rupee-doctor of Birbhum was known for his public-spirited philanthropy, and I express my sincerest condolences," the CM wrote. Modi shared a picture of his with Banerjee during an award ceremony.
