Eight Killed As Vehicle Falls In Deep Gorge In Nainital

Nainital, April 9 (TNA) In a tragic incident, a pickup vehicle fell into a 200-metre deep gorge, killing eight people. The driver of the vehicle is among the victims. The accident happened at the Unchakot motor road in Malla village of Betalghat area near Nainital at around 10:30 pm on Monday. Two Nepali laborers traveling in the vehicle were also seriously injured, have been referred to a specialised medical facility.

Police station head Anees Ahmed said that as soon as information was received about the pickup falling into the ditch late on Monday night, the police team reached the spot and started the rescue operation with the help of local people. The police station chief said that apart from the driver Rajendra Kumar (42), son of Hariram, resident of Odabaskot, there were nine Nepali laborers in the vehicle.

Everyone was returning after completing the work of laying drinking water line in the area when this accident happened. The police official further stated said that the names and homes of the Nepali laborers who lost their lives in the accident are not yet known. Some information will be available only after the injured regain consciousness.
