Bihar's DGP Gupteshwar Pandey Quits IPS, To Contest Bihar Assembly Elections

PATNA || Bihar's Director General of Police (DGP) Gupteshwar Pandey quit the force on Tuesday after applying for VRS. He has since announced that he will contest the forthcoming state assembly polls from his native place Buxar.

The 1987-batch officer is considered very close to the chief minister Nitish Kumar and it is likely that he contests the polls on a JD (U) ticket.

Following his exit, the state government has since given the charge of the DGP to state's Fire Service and Home Guards DG, Sanjeev Singhal. Gupteshwar Pandey will be the first Bihar official to contest the election after taking voluntary retirement from the post of DGP.

He had been named the top cop of Bihar on January 31, 2019 and his tenure was to end om February 28, 2021 but he decided to thrown in his towel early.
