Bengaluru, Feb 2 (TNA) Apple is widely rumoured to be preparing its long-awaited entry into the foldable smartphone segment, with the first model tentatively called the iPhone Fold expected to debut in 2026. However, the Cupertino-based tech giant may not stop at just one foldable device. According to media reports the company is also exploring a second foldable form factor: a clamshell-style smartphone, likely to be branded as the iPhone Flip.

Apple’s broader foldable roadmap. He revealed that Apple is experimenting with a smaller foldable iPhone, distinct from the book-style iPhone Fold. This compact device is expected to adopt a square, flip-phone design and could arrive after the launch of the iPhone Fold, potentially in the second half of 2026.

The rumoured iPhone Flip would reportedly resemble popular clamshell foldables such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Motorola Razr 60 Ultra. While specific hardware details remain scarce, the focus is said to be on portability and a refined folding mechanism areas where Apple is known to take a cautious, perfection-driven approach.

That said, Gurman cautions that the development of the iPhone Flip is “far from guaranteed.” Apple is still evaluating the commercial viability and technological challenges of the clamshell design. As with many Apple projects, the company is expected to enter the market only when it believes the product meets its quality and user-experience standards.

If launched, the iPhone Flip could significantly expand Apple’s foldable lineup and intensify competition in the premium foldable smartphone market.
