Ramcharitmanas Controversy: Chargesheet Filed Against SP Leader Swami Prasad Maurya

Lucknow, May 3 (TNA) A chargesheet ahs been filed against former UP minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) general secretary Swamy Prasad Maurya by the Lucknow Police for his remarks on sacred Hindu epic Ramcharitmanas. A case was filed against him on January 24 by Shivendra Mishra at the Hazratganj Police Station under other sections including hurting religious sentiments.

It was alleged that on January 22, Swami Prasad Maurya made an objectionable comment on Ramcharitmanas on a news channel due to which the Hindu society has been hurt. The sections under which the case was registered had a provision of punishment of less than seven years, so the police did not make arrests. In the case, the police had sent a notice to him.

Hazratganj Inspector Akhilesh Kumar Mishra said that the video statement made during the probe of the case was investigated in which it was confirmed that the statement wasmade by the said accused only. On this basis a notice was sent to him. After taking the statement etc., the charge sheet was filed after completing the investigation.
