Pratapgarh: The police on Sunday arrested Ummed Ali, a wanted criminal after a brief gun battle. Two others managed to escape while the police recovered one countryside pistol, some cartridges, some money which they had recently looted.

The criminal was injured in the encounter with the Kandhai Police. He has many cases registered against his name, some on serious charges.

Agra: The Shahganj police in Agra managed to arrest some criminal on Sunday but after a shootout. The cops arrested Yogendra, Akbar, Pratap, Kamal, Vikas, Mehfooz, Sangeet, Lehta.

The police recovered one Swift Desire car, one Safari car, two motorcycles, nine kg silver, three countryside pistols and cartridges. Sub-inspector Rajeev Solanki had a providential escape in the encounter as a bullet just missed him, an official said.

Sitapur: The Imaliya police on Sunday, during checking, recovered a major haul of stolen items and arrested accused Rakesh, Luvush and Vinay. They had recently robbed a house falling under Mohali police station. Some stolen cash, some jewellery and a countryside pistol were recovered from them.

An official said that Luvkush was a history sheeter in Majariya police station of Imaliya Sultanpur.
