Mumbai, October 14 (TNA) Indian equity benchmark indices opened on a largely flat note on Wednesday, October 14, after a sharp rally in the previous session. The 30-share BSE Sensex gained 15.98 points, or 0.02%, to open at 73,049.76, while the NSE Nifty 50 declined 6.20 points to begin trading at 22,715.75.

The subdued opening came despite strong gains in the previous session, when the Sensex climbed 1,109.10 points, or 1.54%, to close at 73,033.78. The Nifty had advanced 358.60 points, or 1.60%, to settle at 22,721.95.

Information technology stocks remained in focus after the sector led Tuesday’s rally. The Nifty IT index was up around 1.5% in early trade, providing some support to the broader market. The market opened amid mixed global cues and caution over elevated crude oil prices, sustained foreign investor outflows and uncertainty ahead of key US inflation data. GIFT Nifty had indicated a weak-to-muted start, trading around 22,764-22,766 in early morning deals.

Investors are closely tracking oil prices, movements in the rupee, foreign fund flows and developments in West Asia for further direction. Brent crude remained elevated near the $104-$107-a-barrel range, adding to concerns over inflation and India’s import bill.

Market participants are also assessing quarterly earnings and the performance of technology companies after the recent IT-led recovery. Analysts expect volatility to remain high as domestic gains compete with pressure from global markets and commodity prices.
