Mumbai, September 9 (TNA) Indian share markets opened on a weak note on Wednesday, with benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 starting in the red amid elevated crude oil prices and mixed global cues.

At the open, the BSE Sensex was trading lower by about 200–250 points from Tuesday’s close of 75,577, while the NSE Nifty 50 slipped below the 23,650 mark after opening around 23,640–23,660, as indicated by pre-market data and GIFT Nifty futures.  GIFT Nifty was quoting near 23,655–23,664, down roughly 0.25% from the previous session, pointing to a negative start for Indian equities.

Market analysts said the key drag was Brent crude hovering close to $100 a barrel on escalating Middle East tensions, which have stoked inflation and rate concerns and kept risk appetite subdued.  On Tuesday, Sensex had already fallen 555 points (0.73%) to 75,577, and Nifty dropped 144 points (0.61%) to 23,635, with weakness in banking, IT and oil & gas stocks.

Early trade today saw pressure on rate-sensitive and oil-linked sectors, while investors awaited further cues from domestic macro data and global markets.
