Mumbai, September 15 (TNA) Indian equity markets opened sharply higher on Tuesday, with the Sensex gaining nearly 588 points and the Nifty 50 rising above the 23,500 mark at the opening bell. The positive start followed a trading holiday on Monday and came despite mixed global market signals.

The 30-share BSE Sensex opened at 75,369.63, up 587.87 points, or 0.79%, from its previous close. The NSE Nifty 50 advanced 178.05 points to open at 23,576.15. The market’s opening performance was broadly in line with signals from GIFT Nifty, which had indicated a positive start. GIFT Nifty was trading around 23,525 before the domestic market opened, pointing to gains of roughly 80 points for the Nifty 50.

Broad-Based Buying

Buying interest was visible across the broader market as well. The BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices also opened in positive territory, indicating that the gains were not limited to large-cap stocks.
Investors were monitoring global cues, movements in crude oil prices and institutional activity. Brent crude was trading near USD 107 a barrel, adding an element of caution despite the strong opening.

Key Levels

Analysts identified the 23,500–23,600 zone as an important near-term resistance area for the Nifty 50. The index had closed at 23,398.10 in the previous session, while the Sensex had ended at 74,781.76.

Market participants will now watch whether the benchmarks can sustain their early gains or face selling pressure at higher levels during the session.
